Dynamic range and sensitivity comparison of optical CCDs

چکیده
The CLF own and use a variety of high dynamic range CCD cameras that are used for a variety of measurements on many of the experiments performed at the facility. The performance and characteristics of these cameras are of utmost importance when choosing which camera to use in any particular circumstance. Therefore, a calibration to determine the dynamic range and threshold sensitivity of the cameras has been conducted. The cameras tested were the Starlight Express 16bit CCD camera, the Andor Neo which has a 16bit CMOS sensor with the capability of dual amplification, the Andor Ixon which has a 16bit Electron Multiplying CCD (EMCCD), a 16bit EMCCD Raptor Kite and a 14bit Allied Vision Technology Stingray camera. Basic information about each camera can be found in table 1.

Weight Measurements by Using Simple Optical-Fiber Sensors (RESEARCH NOTE)
The use of different optical-fiber sensors for weighing measurements is Abstract described. By using three different mechanical stressing mechanisms, the operation of the fiber-to-fiber transducer systems are tested and the results are presented. Parameters such as sensitivity, hysteresis, resolution, and dynamic range are measured. A comparison of the results has shown that the sensor system m...
متن کاملFrame Transfer CCDs for Digital Still Cameras: Concept, Design, and Evaluation
Digital still cameras are becoming a widely used alternative for conventional silver-halide cameras. This paper presents first the concept of frame-transfer CCD imagers designed for consumer digital cameras. Next, the different modes of operation are explained in detail and compared with alternative approaches. Finally, extensive evaluation results on four different imagers using this new conce...
متن کاملDeveloping a high-resolution x-ray imager using electron-multiplying (EM) CCDs
Applications at synchrotron facilities such as macromolecular crystallography and high energy X-ray diffraction require high resolution imaging detectors with high dynamic range and large surface area. Current systems can be split into two main categories: hybrid pixel detectors and scintillator-coupled Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs). Whilst both have limitations, CCD-based systems (coupled to f...
متن کاملComparison of new optical sensor based on triazene ligand immobilized on PVC and triacetylcellulose membranes for Hg (II) Ion
For spectrophotometric analysis of Hg (II) ions, we have used and compared two membranes preparation methods using different polymer; one is poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and the other is triacetylcellulose (TAC). In the case of TAC membrane, it was treated with a ligand solution (1.166 × 10-3 mole L-1) in ethylenediamine at the ambient temperature for almost 2-5 min. However, in the case of PVC m...

Orly Yadid-Pecht, MEMBER SPIE Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Electrical and Computer Engineering Department P.O. Box 653 Beer-Sheva 84105 Israel E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The work done to provide image sensors (CCDs and CMOS) with a wide dynamic range is reviewed. The different classes of solutions, which consist of logarithmic sensors, ‘‘clipped’’ sensors, multimode sensors, frequ...
